Reenvisioning Heritage: A Living Force for the Future

Heritage sites embody profound cultural value, yet their relevance depends on how present-day communities engage with and experience them. How can heritage conservation and revitalisation align with innovation to build sustainable, future-ready cultural ecosystems? How can strategic partnerships, innovative funding models, and community-driven initiatives activate heritage as platforms for learning, cultural exchange, and community connection?

This Impact Studio will spotlight two distinguished projects. Tai Kwun—conserved and revitalised by The Hong Kong Jockey Club—has been transformed into a vibrant cultural and heritage landmark that reflects Hong Kong’s cultural dynamism and its role as a centre for East–West exchange. The second project is a collaboration between the Institute of Philanthropy and the Palace Museum, focusing on nurturing arts tech talent and promotion of Chinese culture including the conservation and restoration of Chengqiangong within the Palace Museum and establishing it as a platform for cultural exchange.

The discussion will also address pressing challenges in heritage conservation today—from navigating dense urban constraints to ensuring long-term stewardship—and how the field can evolve so that heritage sites remain active, valued, and deeply relevant.
